Residency Program

THE B–CSC RESIDENCY PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO A SIGNIFICANT LANDSLIP AFFECTING THE BOGONG HIGH PLAINS ROAD. IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THE ROAD CLOSURE WILL EXTEND TO APRIL 2023 WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A FURTHER EXTENSION DUE TO THE INSTABILITY OF THE MOUNTAIN TOPOGRAPHY. WE WILL POST A NOTICE ON THIS PAGE ONCE BOGONG VILLAGE AND B-CSC HAVE REOPENED.

The B–CSC invites applications for its Supported Residency program from emerging and established solo artists working in the following disciplines: Sound Art, Music composition, Moving Image, Photography, Creative Writing, Media Art, Curation, Land, and Environmental Art.

The B–CSC’s residency program encourages dialogue, exchange and experimentation. It provides artists with an opportunity to consider and respond to Victoria’s alpine environment and its attendant complexities including the tension between conservation and exploitation. A key aim of the residency is to provide cultural opportunities to the Alpine Shire community, through public programs implemented by Australian and international artists while residing at the B–CSC. It is expected that artists will engage with the community creatively on at least one occasion. This could be an artist talk, workshop or some other means. Artists are selected by the quality of their proposal and how it fits with the values and capabilities of the B–CSC.

Artists undertaking the residency are expected to arrive with a motivated, self-driven practice. Because of our small size and remote village location, artists must be excited by living in a temporary community of as few as two people, including staff. The residency is situated in Bogong Village within close proximity to the picturesque Lake Guy. Established in 1940 with European gardens it is surrounded on all sides by Australian forest rich in native birdlife.

The 2022 residency program is now full. We are now accepting applications for the 2023 residency program.

Please note that the B–CSC does not have the facilities to host artists working in a creative partnership nor the artist’s family. For more information please refer to the Application Form.
